Potential Health Hazards
Excessive moisture in your basement can lead to the growth of mould and mildew. Left unchecked, mould can spread throughout the entire basement, especially in areas with poor air circulation such as behind finished walls. This can cause mild to severe health problems for the elderly, pregnant women and those with small children. Moulds such as Fusarium, Aspergillus, Stachybotrys, Penicillium and Black Mould can carry many other health risks which are often a result of the airborne mould spores and mycotoxins.
They vary from ailments such as:
- itchy throat
- wheezing
- stuffy nose
- shortness of breath
- fatigue
- headaches
- inattentiveness
- dermatitis
To more severe cases of:
- ear infections
- asthma
- bronchitis
